Fife - Executive - Scottish Parent Councils Association

Experience: I work at RAF Leuchars in Fife, and have lived in St Andrews for twenty-three years, apart from short postings elsewhere. I am currently a Navigator Instructor on the Tornado Operational Conversion Unit, training new aircrew.

I joined the School Board of my children’s primary school, and then served as Chair for four years, but have now moved on to become Chair of the newly formed Madras College Parents’ Council. In 2006, I volunteered to be Fife’s executive board member on the then SSBA, and I remain keen to represent parents’ views at a national level. I believe that Parent Councils are an excellent initiative as they have a greater flexibility than the old School Board model. However, I am concerned that parents’ opinions should be regarded both at local and national levels and I believe that the SPCA has an important role in representing parents’ views nationally. The SPCA is also well placed to advertise good practice in order that all schools may benefit from ideas that have been proven to work elsewhere.
