Public Liability Insurance For Parent Councils

Following a high volume of queries from newly set up Parent Councils and ‘nearly set up Parent Councils’ on
the subject of insurance we have sourced the names of a couple of Insurance Companies who are experienced
in providing this type of cover -

In the first instance you should check with your own Local Authority Parental Involvement Officer to check
what arrangements are in place for the public liability cover of your Parent Council. We have heard that many authorities have taken out the Zurich Municipal group cover BUT some are leaving it to their individual Parent
Councils to deal with.

Morton Michel
Morton Michel is the leading insurance provider for a wide range of childcare and education professionals, from individual tutors and childminder to large day nurseries and schools.

As a Parent Council you would need insurance cover for your normal meetings and any fundraising events that
you may be planning.  They insure a large number of PTA type organisations in the UKand have tailored policies
to the specific requirements of these organisations.

Zurich Municipal
We have also found similar cover with Zurich Municipal that provides Public Liability, Fidelity Guarantee and
Money cover. The policy can also be extended to cover Personal Accident, All Risks for high value items and
special events.

This company prefers to supply group cover to the Local Authorities, in which case you should contact your
own Local Authority Parental Involvement member of staff for further information.

Please be aware that SPCA does not receive any financial gain from any authorities or individual Parent Councils
who decide to take up either of these offers - we have just sourced what we believe to be adequate cover and
do not receive referral income or anything else from the insurance companies.
